Three generations of the Young family have led and supported the company that Joe and Elsie founded — and that legacy still guides how we serve you today.

Steve Young

Steve began his career right out of college working professionally for the YMCA both in Orange County, California and Seattle, Washington. Eleven years later he was afforded the opportunity to change career paths to begin what became a 25-year involvement in the senior housing industry. With companies like Leisure Care, Wedgewood, Henderson Homes, Careage and even his own consulting business, he honed his operational skills working with Retirement, Assisted Living and Dementia facilities.

During the time between Wedgewood and Henderson he was asked by his father to step in and take over the reins of our family business. The company was stagnant and not growing. That's where his skills in day-to-day operations helped create focus and direction and, as a result, he has been its President for 25 years. Along the way he was able to bring on board his sister Janet to run the day-to-day, allowing him to re-enter senior housing.

Although recently retired, he still is involved with the company helping create and develop new and innovative ways to service our customers.

Janet Young

Janet's professional career began working in cash management for a college and church. She spent 25 years in tech and financial support before she became a part of the Fire Safety Service, Inc. team in 1995. She was responsible for day-to-day operations, which included contracts, financial details and support of our consultants.

For 20 years, as Vice President of Operations, she worked with her brother, Steve, to update and improve the technology for the business and continue to grow the company in new markets. In 2013 she became part owner and transitioned to full-time retirement in 2015. She currently enjoys golfing, reading and gardening as well as helping to oversee the company's continued growth as a leader in the fire safety industry.

Sherri Young

Sherri grew up in San Diego and lived in California most of her young years. Sunshine and animals were her passions. She started showing dogs at 11 years old and grooming dogs and cats at 16. This led her to a career full of animals. At 28 she opened her grooming shop and, thanks to an amazing vet and a Malamute, met her now husband, Steve Young. Fifteen years later they started dating and married a year later.

This eventually led Sherri into taking over the office duties when Janet retired. Sherri's extensive experience running her grooming shop, chasing kids and managing the day-to-day office of a very busy construction company at the same time makes her the perfect person to run the day-to-day life of FSS. Sherri has two daughters, a son and seven grandchildren. Family time, animals and the outdoors make her tick.
